Abuja, April 16, 2023 -The NDLEA has intercepted large consignments of illicit drugs from a passenger, Joshia Sunday, who was travelling on a Qatar Airlines flight via Doha to Oman.
The drugs, which included tramadol, Rohypnol, ecstasy (designer drug) and cannabis hidden in winter jackets and bottles of body cream, were intercepted at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
“A thorough search of the suspect’s two black bags led to the discovery of 4.80 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in three winter jackets and various quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Ecstasy (designer drug) hidden in bottles of body lotion.”
Babafemi also said that on the same day, a businessman, Cyril Chidiebere, was arrested for his involvement in the importation of 12 parcels of Loud, a cannabis strain, weighing 6.50kg, which was part of a consolidated cargo brought in from the United States of America (U.S.A.).
He said that Chidiebere was arrested along with two of his freight agents, Mejabi Peter Sunday, and Oyeyinka Babatunde, following a three-day intelligence-led operation.
Babafemi also said a pregnant woman, Rabetu Abdulrasak, 24, and a cripple, Shehu Adams, were also arrested by its operatives in Agbede, Etsako West LGA of Edo State.
According to him, over 14 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs, including cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, and swinol, were recovered from the suspect on Saturday, April 15.
“Similarly, anti-narcotic officers, acting on a tip-off apprehended two suspects, Aminu Saudi, 45, and Abdullahi Sani, 35, in Ogbese, Ondo State, with 11 jumbo bags containing 211 kg of cannabis hidden in rice chaff.
“This was closely followed by the destruction of six hectares of cannabis farms in the state’s Uso Forest on Thursday, April 13th,” he said. (GBN)
