NAHCO begins export of raw Nigerian foods abroad

Lagos, May 13, 2023 – The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (nahco aviance),  a ground handling service provider at Nigerian airports, has started exporting raw Nigerian foods abroad.

The food export business is being done by its new subsidiary, NAHCO Food and Beverages Limited.

It started with the exportation of fresh pepper after obtaining the necessary regulatory certification and approval from the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) and with due consultation with foreign food standards agencies.

The company said the new export business was being done in conjunction with some appointed partners in exporting the first batch of the exports consisting of high grade fresh Nigerian pepper.

Indranil Gupta, the Group Managing Director, nahco aviance, said the development was in response to the challenge of poor packaging which Nigeria exports were facing.

  “We appreciate the hard work some of our farmers put into producing their goods.

“NAHCO is trying to support them to export these products so as to make these efforts more worthwhile for them. It is also a way of generating scarce foreign exchange for the country,” he said.

Emmanuel Illah, Senior Business Development Manager (New Business) in nahco aviance, said the food export business was part of NAHCO’s larger expansion strategy driven by three major objectives of growth, risk reduction and profitability.

He commended the chief executive of the company for introducing the intiative and providing the support and technical know-how.

Stakeholders have commended the initiative which they described as one that could revolutionalise the way Nigeria’s produce are packaged for foreign markets.

They said the initiative was the first by any major operator at the Nigerian airport following the Federal government’s agricultural revolution which identifies increased of export of Nigerian agricultural produce as a cardinal objective. (GBN)
