N4.135bn Fraud: Court grants Sirika, 3 others N100m bail each

Abuja, May 9, 2024 – A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday admitted Hadi Sirika, a former Minister of Aviation, and two others to bail in the sum of N100 million each.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Sirika before Justice Sylvanus Oriji on Thursday.

Also arraigned are Sirika’s daughter, Fatima; Jalal Hamma and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd over alleged fraud to the tune of N4.135 billion.

According to the charge sheet, Sirika allegedly used his position as the Minister of Aviation to fraudulently award contracts to his daughter, son in-law and associates.

Justice Oriji ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody if they failed to meet their bail conditions.

The court directed that the defendants should provide two sureties who must be responsible citizens with landed property in Abuja.

The sureties must also depose to affidavit of means, while the defendants were restricted from travelling abroad without permission.

The trial is to commence on June 10, 11 and 20. (GBN)
