Tehran, March 25, 2026 – Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has agreed to enter negotiations with the United States and pursue a potential deal, signalling a possible diplomatic opening amid the ongoing conflict, according to an Al Arabiya report citing Israeli media.
The development comes as US President Donald Trump said Washington and Tehran held talks over the past day that resulted in what he described as “major points of agreement”.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said discussions began on Sunday and were expected to continue, raising the possibility of a near-term agreement to end the war.
He added that his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law and close aide Jared Kushner were involved in the talks with Iranian representatives.
