Lagos, Dec.14, 2024 – The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Lagos recorded N1.9 billion revenue in November, 2022.
Mohammed Gidado, the Area Controller, said this in a statement in Lagos, adding that the amount represented an increase of N350 million over the amount generated in October.
Gidado said the command recorded the greater success through seamless clearance procedure of passengers’ accompanied and unaccompanied baggage.
He said the success also was achieved through active pursuance of the Customs’ mandate which included interception of contraband, examination of travelers and their baggage, cargo and mails, assessment and collection of customs duty and other statutory taxes on goods and services.
Gidado listed other objectives of the mandate to include protection of businesses against illegal trade malpractices with the application of extant laws such as Sections 150 and 161 of the Customs and Excise Management Act CAP C45 Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 (CEMA CAP C45 LFN 2004).
He urged sister agencies at the MMIA to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure blockage of all avenues of revenue leakage. (GBN)
