Akure, April, 2023 -The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a young man who was lynched after his car crushed four persons to death in Akure on Monday.
SP Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, the Ondo Police Spokesperson, said the suspect was already dead by the time the police got to the scene.
The unidentified young man was said to be driving a Toyota car along the road when he suddenly skidded off its lane and rammed into his victims who were riding on motorcycles.
Witnesses said sympathisers, who rushed to rescue the driver found some fetish items inside the vehicle which raised their suspension that the driver was into some ritual otherwise known as ‘yahoo plus’.
They later set the driver and his car ablaze before policemen arrived the scene.
Omisanya said she could not confirmed if fetish items were found as alleged as the vehicle was already set ablaze.
“Two people died. A motor-cyclist and the driver, while other six persons have been rushed to the hospital.
“The young man died. He was not beaten to coma. He was killed and his vehicle set ablaze. Talks about fetish items are stories.
“There was no how our men could make any arrest in that situation.” (GBN)
