Lagos, Dec. 2, 2024 – The Lagos State government and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have denied any involvement in pure water destruction in Lagos State.
The two made the denial in separate statements on Sunday.
Some men seen destroying bags of pure water sachets on vehicles and factories in Lagos at the weekend.
Residents initially thought that the men were law enforcement agents from Lagos State Government or NAFDAC.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, said the men were not from the state government.
He said the men were NAFDAC officials carrying out an enforcement exercise targeting sachet water products that do not comply with the agency’s standards.
NAFDAC also denied its involvement in the pure water destruction, stressing that the destruction in the video are not part of its enforcement activities, describing it as “unprofessional”.
“The videos circulating of individuals engaging in enforcement activities are NOT NAFDAC officials or part of our Investigation & Enforcement team
“Furthermore, stopping vehicles to destroy products is unprofessional and does not align with any NAFDAC Standard Operating Procedure,” NAFDAC said.
