Abuja, June 14, 2023 – The House of Representatives has declared the Femi Gbajabiamila’s seat in the House vacant following his resignation as a member of the House on Wednesday.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, declared the seat vacant immediately Gbajabiamila submitted his letter of resignation.
Gbajabiamila represented Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
He had been in the House since 2003 and had been re-elected for six terms.
Gbajabiamila’s resignation followed his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff with effect from June 14 after the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on Tuesday.
A bye-election will be held by INEC to fill the vacancy.
Gbajabiamila CFR was born in Lagos on June 25, 1962.
He is a lawyer and politician and served as Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2019 to 2023.
Gbajabiamila attended Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, for his secondary education and went to the University of Lagos for his university education.
He is married to Salamatu Gbajabiamila. (GBN)
