Lokoja, April 10, 2023 – Some women groups and youths in Kogi State on Monday called on the PDP National Working Committee to give the gubernatorial ticket of the party to Senator Dino Melaye.
The women and youths, mostly from Kogi West, held a rally at the premises of state Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lokoja on Monday to press for their demand.
Mahmoud Aliyu, their Spokesman and the PDP Legal Adviser in Lokoja Local Government Area, said the group gathered in Lokoja to declare their unalloyed support and to endorse Senator Dino Melaye as the sole governorship candidate on the platform of PDP.
He described Dino as the only candidate capable and fearless among the PDP aspirants that can wrestle power from the hands of the APC-led administration in the state
He expressed regret that payment of percentage salaries had been the order of the day at the local government areas since the inception of the APC government in Kogi.
He said that Dino would dislodge APC and right the wrong of the current administration in Kogi State if given the ticket of the party.
Aliyu appealed to PDP leaders at the national and state levels to give the governorship ticket of the party to Senator Dino Melaiye.
Elizabeth Awelewa, the Lokoja Ward D Women Leader, said for equity and fairness an aspirant from Kogi West should be given the ticket.
She said that the West Senatorial District had never produced the governor since the creation of the state.
She appealed to PDP stakeholders to give the ticket to Dino Melaye in the spirit of justice.
Lawal Ibrahim, a youth leader in Lokoja Local Government Area, said the group had gathered to show solidarity with Dino Melaye, who he said, is capable to lead the state. (GBN)
