Lagos, March 29, 2023 – Omotutu Bamidele, a fake Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer, was on Tuesday sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Lagos State Special Offences Court.
Bamidele, who was arrested last the weekend, was sentenced for impersonating and extorting money from motorists across the state.
The suspect had confessed that he and his colleagues were make an average of N35,000 daily by extorting motorists.
Items recovered from him include fake identity card and a reflex jacket.
The Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare, sentenced Bamidele to two-year imprisonment without any option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the two-count charge levied against him.
Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, said the judgment would serve as deterrent to others who were still extorting money from members of public under false pretences.
“Our monitoring and surveillance unit will continue to hunt for other bad elements disturbing the peace of the society,” he said. (GBN)
