Abuja, Dec. 20, 2022 – Mr Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, for the second time, failed to appear before the House of Representatives today as scheduled.
The House had summoned Emefiele to the House to explain his policy on limited cash withdrawal by individuals and corporate entities
The first invitation was scheduled for Thursday last week, but he failed to honour the invitation.
Edward Adamu, the CBN Deputy Governor, Corporate Services, wrote to the House to explain Emefiele’s absence last week, saying that he was part of President Buhari’s entourage to the U.S.
Ahmed Wase, the Deputy Speaker of the House, who read out the letter to members at the plenary on Thursday, said the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, had rescheduled Emefiele’s appearance for Tuesday.
The CBN wrote again on Tuesday to say that Emefiele was still on official assignment.
Gbajabiamila said the lawmakers would want to know about the official assignment that had lasted two weeks.
The Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, advised that the House resolution on suspension of the policy should stand if the CBN governor refused to appear before the House on Thursday when the lawmakers will go on Christmas and New Year break. (GBN)
