Uyo, May 1, 2023 – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has busted a syndicate of cyber criminals in Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) and arrested 19 students.

This followed the raiding of the school at the weekend.

The suspects were rounded up at their private hostels including Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge following intelligence and several months of painstaking surveillance.

Disclosing the breakthrough, the anti-graft agency in Akwa-Ibom said “their arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent crypto currency transactions and impersonation.”

The command listed items recovered from the suspects to include several laptops and mobile phones.

It said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.

EFCC warned students to be wary of untoward lifestyles and shun bad companies, stressing that suspected criminals would face the law and be punished if found culpable. (GBN)
