Butler (Pennsylvania), July 14, 2024 – Donald Trump has issued a fresh statement thanking God for “preventing the unthinkable” after a lone gunman shot at the former President in Pennsylvania.

Trump, 78, also appeared to confirm he will still attend the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin next week.

The 45th President sustained minor injuries as blood streamed from his ear following the shooting.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot dead by the FBI as Secret Service agents “neutralised” the suspect.

In a new statement, Trump said: “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.

“We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.

“Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.

“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win.

“I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”

The 45th President has issued a number of statements from his Truth Social account following the incident in Butler last night.

Trump initially claimed a bullet pierced his ear, adding: “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

The shooting resulted in an audience member being killed and another two people sustaining injuries.

Trump’s 2024 rival Joe Biden also issued an update about the incident.

“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well,” the 46th President said.

“I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.”
