Abuja, Feb. 10, 2023 – The first Council of State meeting in 2023 is being held today at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, with President Muhammadu Buhari presiding.
Members of council of state consist of the President, who is the chairman, and the Vice President, who is the Deputy Chairman.
Other members are former presidents and all former heads of government, as well all former chief justices and the president of the senate.
The major issues for discussions at today’s meeting are the 2023 general elections, the acute shortage of petrol across the country and naira notes redesign programma and attendant problems.
Present at the meeting are former Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, as well as former President Goodluck Jonathan.
President Olusegun Obasanjo is joining the meeting virtually as only about 14 governors are present both physically and virtually with some represented by their deputies.
Also present are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, two former Chief Justices of Nigeria, amongst others.
Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), is also attending the meeting to brief them on the preparations for the 2023 general elections. (GBN)
