Katsina, May 29, 2023 – Former President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, to a tumultuous welcome an hour after he handed over to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday.
The white presidential plane touched down at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport carrying the former president, his wife, Aisha Buhari, and their entourage at about 1:10 pm.
He was received by the new governor of the state, Dikko Radda, and his Deputy, Faruk Jobe, along with the state Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammad Sani, as well as the Senator representing Katsina North, Nasiru Daura, the outgoing Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, among others.
Residents expressed happiness that the former president successfully completed his eight-year tenure and returned home safely.
Senator Daura, representing Katsina North, said he was happy that Buhari did his best for the country and “it’s time for him to enjoy his peaceful and happy retirement”.
Badamasi Charanchi, the outgoing Katsina State Commissioner for Education, described Buhari as the best president Nigeria had had in terms of infrastructure development and security and he expected a continuation of the good work.
Abdurrahman Ahmed, the AIG for Zone 14 Headquarters in Katsina, also said Buhari did his best in providing security in the country.
He expressed optimism that there would be improvement under the incoming administration. (GBN)
