Lagos, Dec. 11, 2022 – Rtd Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe, the Commander of Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, says the corps arrested 79 suspected kidnappers and settled 63 farmer-herder cases since it was established.
He said that the suspected kidnappers had been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The Commander said this while receiving some journalists who paid a courtesy call on him in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, adding that the corps had achieved a lot in quelling crimes in the zone.
”We came in at a time the South-West zone was battling with insecurity, but with much efforts and commitment, we have been able to bring the situation under control.”
Komolafe said other suspects who had been handed over to the police included robbers, armed robbers, burglars, ritualists, rapists, human traffickers and others that committed sundry offences.
H called on residents in the state to give necessary information to the corps to ensure the arrest of criminals to prevent crimes.
The NUJ National Vice President in the Zone, Ronke Afebioye, commended the corps for its consistent fight against kidnappers and bandits in the state.
She called on the state government to meet the various challenges of the security body by equipping its men and officers with modern facilities and necessary logistics to enhance their operations.
Afebioye also called for the enactment of laws to permit officers of the corps to carry weapon and as well prosecute suspects. (GBN)
