Abuja, Dec.16, 2022 – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has so far recovered over N30 billion out of the N109 billion allegedly stolen by the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Idris Ahmed.
Its Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said this at the ministerial media briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
Idris was arrested by the EFCC on allegation of frauds initially estimated at N84 billion
He was suspended from office by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, to enable him to face investigation,
Idris, was said to have listed names, companies and huge amounts of money currently being investigated.
Bawa gave details of the Commission’s other achievements from January to December 2022 to include recoveries of cash assets of N134,33,759,574.25, $121,769,076.30, £21,020.00, €156,925.00, ¥21,350.00, CFA300,000.00 among others.
He that the EFCC recorded over 3,615 convictions within the period, saying that the administration was serious in its anti-corruption programme.
The EFCC boss said that there would be nationwide auctions of forfeited automobiles and over 150 houses to interested buyers. (GBN)
