Ogunlesi, first Nigerian professor of medicines, dies at 99

Abeokuta, Jan, 20, 2023 – Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, the first Nigerian Professor of Medicine is dead.

Ogunlesi, who hailed from Sagamu in Ogun State, died on Thursday at the age of 99 years.

He became first Nigerian Professor of Medicine in 1965.

Ogunlesi started his career as a medical doctor at Yaba College of Medicine in 1947.

Confirming his death, the Ogun State Governor,  Dapo Abiodun, described Ogunlesi’s death as painful.

In a statement on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the governor said that Ogunlesi passed away when his vast experience in the field of Medicine was needed most, especially in the face of challenges militating against human health.  (GBN)
