Lagos, Dec. 24, 2024 – President Bola Tinubu says the tax reforms initiated by his administration have come to stay.

Tinubu said this on Monday evening while speaking on a presidential media chart in Lagos.

He said he appreciated the reactions of some Nigerians to the Tax Reform Bills, but said he was convinced that the benefits of the bills far outweighed the concerns raised.

“Tax reform is here to stay. Why do you want to know that today? Tax matters are subject to debates, reviews and negotiations until you reach concessions. That is what I am going to say about that. I don’t mind cutting edges.

“We cannot continue to do what we previously did in today’s economy.

“We cannot retool this economy with the same broken boat and I believe that I have that capacity that is why I went into the race. I am focused on what Nigeria needs and what I must do for Nigerians.

“It is not yet Eldorado for everybody, but the new dawn is here. I am convinced,” he said.

Tinubu described the reforms being carried out by his administration as necessary for long-term growth.

“For years, we spent our future’s resources on subsidies and unsustainable programmes.

“Removing the fuel subsidy was a critical decision. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary to prevent financial disaster for future generations. We must manage our resources within our means and focus on investments that ensure prosperity.

“Yes, it’s painful, but it’s like labour pains, a necessary step for the birth of something better. I’m confident that our current policies are laying the foundation for a brighter future,” the president said. (GBN)
