Kano, May 23, 2024 – Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State on Thursday assented to Kano State Emirate Council Law 2024 (1441 A.H) which gives legal backing to the reinstallation of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano.
The State House of Assembly passed the bill on Thursday.
The law also gives legal backing to the dethronement of Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, and four other emirs in the state.
The dethroned emirs were those installed by the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje., a former governor of the state.
According to the new law, “All traditional office holders and title holders elevated or appointed to an office created under the repealed Principal law, dated 5th December 2019 shall revert to their position where such positions previously existed under recognised custom and traditions prior to the enactment of the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December 2019.
“The Commissioner responsible for Local Government shall oversee all transitional arrangements including how best to deal with assets and liabilities of the abolished emirates and new structure created under the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December 2019,” said the amended law 2024.
“The governor shall take all necessary measures to restore the status of the Kano Emirate System to its positions prior to the enactment of the repealed Principal Law dated 5th December 2019.”
It will be recalled that Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano, was dethroned on March 9, 2020, and banished from Kano by the administration of Gov. Ganduje. (GBN).
