Lagos, Dec. 12, 2022 – The Imo State Police Command on Monday said three gunmen were killed in the early hours of the day when gunmen attacked the INEC headquarters in Owerri.
The Command Spokesperson, Michael Abattam, told journalists that a policeman was killed during the incident, while another officer was injured.
The bodies of the three hoodlums were paraded at the premises where five rifles, two vehicles, charms, locally made bombs, phones and money were recovered from the slain gunmen.
Abattam said the gunmen attacked the INEC headquarters around 3.00 am with bombs.
“They threw bombs on the roof of INEC building, but unfortunately for them, they were resisted by our men who were guarding the place.
They came in four vehicles and fully armed.
“While they engaged our men on ground, we reinforced. Noticing that we were stronger, they ran away, abandoning one of their vehicles. Fortunately, we neutralised three of them.
“Others escaped with bullet wounds. Unfortunately, one of our men paid the supreme price, while another one was injured.
“We recovered two vehicles. We also recovered five rifles, charms, locally made explosives, phones and money and other exhibits,” he said. (GBN)
