Birnin Kebbi, Nov. 15, 2025 – The Kebbi State Command of the National drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) on Saturday destroyed over 25 tonnes of illicit drugs.
Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto, the Commander, said the destruction was meant to warn traffickers and their sponsors that Kebbi was not open for illicit operations.
He said the strategic location of the state had made it a conduit for drugs trafficking.
“Our state’s porous borders with Niger Republic to North and Benin Republic to the West have increased the inflow of illicit substances into our Nation through the state,” he said.
In his message at the event, the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), said the destruction followed a Federal High Court order in Birnin Kebbi and was in line with the NDLEA Act.
“This occasion signifies a major achievement in our ongoing efforts to curb substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
“It also sends a strong message to those engaged in drug-related crimes, he said,” he said.
Marwa, who was represented by Muhammed Usman, the NDLEA Deputy Director of General Operations, listed the destroyed drugs to include Cannabis Sativa weighing 16,951.105 kgs, Cocaine 0.027 kgs, Methamphetamine 0.0036 kgs, Akuskura 336.381 kgs, and Tramadol and other psychotropics totaling 8,093.381 kgs, all combined to make a total of 25,381.495 kgs.
